Social Media news for the summer

It’s time to take stock of this summer’s Social Media news.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a number of exciting updates appear on the web.
Don’t waste any more time, we’re sharing all these discoveries with you in our article.
We promise it’ll be worth your while, even on the beach with a cocktail in hand.

TIKTOK

Let’s start by talking about the social network that’s been booming since containment: TikTok.
With 11 million active users in 2020, it’s THE reference for short videos.

The network recently launched Spark Ads, a tool enabling brands to sponsor influencer content directly.
After contacting the creators, they can then agree on an affiliation.
The aim is to be able to sponsor videos in a transparent way, i.e. amplify the visibility of content already created, and consequently develop the brand’s presence on TikTok.

In addition, TikTok videos can now reach a maximum length of 3 minutes for many users, and this feature will be rolled out to the whole community in the coming weeks.
You’ll be notified when this is possible.

INSTAGRAM

Instagram, the network with 500 million active users, also has a few useful new features.
First and foremost, it’s finally possible to publish photos and videos from a computer.
No need to waste time sending each other files, this long-awaited feature makes life easier!

Haven’t tried it yet?
Simply log in to your account on your computer and click on the new “+” icon in the top right-hand corner.
All you have to do is select your photo or video and publish it to the social network.

It is also now possible to save Stories as drafts.
Users will therefore no longer need to save their Stories in their film or go through other apps.
Of course, you’ll be able to use all the platform’s tools: add text, graphics, GIFS, buttons (poll, emoji bar, quiz…).
However, don’t forget that these drafts will only be available for 7 days before they are deleted.

To compete with TikTok, Instagram has also increased the duration of Reels to 1 minute for all users.
This will enable content creators present on TikTok to also upload their content of less than a minute on Instagram.

YOUTUBE

The big news of summer 2021: Youtube Shorts have been available in France since July 14!
If you haven’t heard of them yet, this new format aims to compete with TikTok and Instagram Reels with short videos (60 seconds maximum).
Services are similar to TikTok: countdown timer, speed control, extensive music catalog….
These videos will be directly visible from the social network’s home page.

A little extra: Google will enable creators to use a “remix” function that will allow them to insert sound from YouTube videos.

Please note, however, that if you use music from Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing or Warner Music Group, you will be limited to 15 seconds of video.

TWITTER

Twitter had wanted to ride the same wave as its competitors: the story, by launching Fleet in November 2020.
Unfortunately, this new development by the social network was not as successful as had been hoped.
As a result, the network announced the official discontinuation of Fleet on August 3.

Where the Fleets used to be, you’ll now find the Twitter Spaces audio rooms.
These audio chats, available to all users, are undoubtedly inspired by the Club House social network.

FACEBOOK

Facebook has launched Bulletin, its new newsletter service.
Currently only available in the United States, but accessible worldwide, this tool is aimed at independent publishers.
The social network will support them in creating content and monetizing it in order to attract readers.

Going into more detail, creators will benefit from a dedicated, customizable page on the Bulletin site.
Of course, monetization will be managed entirely through Facebook Pay.
Analysis tools will also be made available.
This content will then be distributed on the site, but can also be relayed in Facebook News to give these newsletters greater visibility.

These developments are always put in place to support content creators, satisfy users’ needs and desires, and help brands communicate.

What does social networking have in store for us in the coming months?
Stay tuned, we’re sure to be surprised!
